The railway station at Tambaram in south Chennai has been used by many commuters to reach their places of destination. Now, more amenities have been sought by the long distance passengers at this important railway station. The main reason for that was to have easier access and hassle free boarding at the station.

It must be remembered that SR or southern railway had announced the development of third railway terminal at Tambaram a few years back for the purpose of providing better connectivity to the residents belonging to south Chennai.

The residents were very happy regarding the news about Tambaram that had become a multi-modal transport hub and Tambaram being made as a third terminal with the operations of few direct trains to various places. To board long distance trains, the passengers need not go all the way to Egmore OR Chengalpet etc.

To make the Tambaram railway station on par with other railway terminals, many amenities have been developed by the SR for the passengers` benefit. Escalators have been installed plus building parking yards both sides and passenger reservation counters etc.

Now, passengers who are travelling long distances want more amenities on the platforms of Tambaram railway station. It was brought to light by Mr. Pandiaraja, railway activist that many people board south bound trains at Tambaram railway station and the railway authorities have created better access in the form of escalators and lifts for the suburban commuters/long distance commuters etc.

He added that on platforms like 5 and 8 at Tambaram railway station many senior citizens and pregnant women face issues in getting into the trains. These platforms do not have a digital board displaying the coach numbers etc and this has been creating many issues for the commuters.

The commuters now want the railway authorities to install digital display boards. It was mentioned by Mr. B. Guganesan, chief public relations officer, SR, that a proposal to re-develop Tambaram railway station with all the passenger amenities is being studied and it would be carried out soon. It is known that Tambaram railway station divides Tambaram to east Tambaram and west Tambaram.
