Every second matters, when dear ones are struggling for their lives!!

In Chennai, many people now are in desperate need of medicines, oxygen supply, beds etc in the hospitals for their dear ones. They face issues due to wrong or misinformation.

It was pointed out by an IT employee in Chennai that he was scrolling over his contacts and social media to get the most sought medicine Remdisivir for his father. His father was affected by Covid-19 infection and has been under treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.

After posting enquiries about the above said medicine, his WhatsApp was full of messages that provided the numbers of medicine suppliers and oxygen suppliers etc.

The shocking truth is that 70percent of the contact numbers he received were either wrong or were not reachable. Now, his dad is recovering after he was given Remdisivir medicine. The trauma faced by this IT employee while calling the wrong numbers was huge. The IT employee spoke about how he was totally in tension to get the medicine for his dad and how he lost precious one hour while calling for these wrong numbers.

Misinformation or wrong information is doing more damage than good and this was according to a wealth management advisor from Chennai. Truth is that she also faced a similar situation when she received wrong information on her WhatsApp about the bed vacancy in the hospitals for Covid-19 treatment. She concluded that those who receive such messages must cross verify and then only send the message to others. Truth is that every second is important when the dear one is struggling for life.

It was later mentioned by some officials belonging to GCC that the civic body has been very active on the social media platforms and have dedicated control rooms to attend Covid-19 related distress calls.
