Increase in the wholesale prices of the vegetables in Chennai expected now

In this coming week of Pongal, the wholesale vegetable prices are likely to become more in Chennai. It is revealed that the rates of vegetables could witness an increase of Rs 5 to Rs 6 per kilogram. The demand for vegetables on the eve of this biggest festival of Pongal would be more and due to this the volume of arrivals would also increase by 20%. Point is that the cost of flowers might not be dearer for the consumers due to more arrivals due to the rains in TN.

The demand in the vegetables during the early days of the week like Tuesday and Wednesday could lead to price hike. It was then brought to light by Mr. Chandran, secretary, Federation of Wholesale Vegetable Market associations that the increase would be more in beans and beans would cost Rs 15 per kg to Rs 20 per kg more than what it was in the last week.

In the last week, the rates of potatoes and onions went by Rs 2 per kg and Rs 3 per kg respectively and it would increase by Rs 5 per kg. Mr. Chandran highlighted that the volume of vegetables arriving at the Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market complex would increase by an additional 100 trucks.
