Apply online for electricity connection from 1st March!

TANGEDCO has announced that henceforth, applications for new electrical connections must be sent only online from 1st March!
There are over 2 Crore domestic/residential power supply connections, over 21 Lakhs power supply connections for agriculture and over 30 Lakhs power connections for trading in the state of Tamil Nadu.
In most of the requirements above, the power supply connection is provided after installing electric poles. In a few localities in Chennai, power supply connection is made through underground cables.
In this situation, to get a low-tension power supply connection, TANGEDCO has made an online application mandatory.
A circular regarding this sent by the Director of Power Distribution:
The procedure of getting low-tension electricity power connection through online application has been in process from the year 2018. In order to simplify the process of providing required services and in order to reduce the number of document files, the Department of Industrial Policies has been emphasising giving power supply connections only through applications online. Subsequently, the industries having to apply online for low-tension power connection has been in practice since 1st July last year.
Subsequently, TANGEDCO has announced that all customers applying for low-tension power connection will have to apply only online. This is being implemented from 1st March. Only connections made for hutments and agricultural connections are being exempted from this condition.
The Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineer need to emphasise their subordinates to receive only online applications. This should be displayed on notice boards in the offices of the distribution circle, regional offices, collection centres, etc., and make public aware of this.
In case it is established that applications are received through processes other than online, stringent action will be taken on the offending officer!
