Till now, in the domestic terminal at the Chennai airport, the passengers have to wait for long time in long queues for the sake of the security check. This issue won’t be there hereafter.

The information collected is a new automatic system has been introduced by Airport Authority of India or AAI to move the bags and trays on the conveyor belt connected t the baggage scanner.

At the 2 baggage scanners at the security check, ARTS or Automatic Tray Retrieval System has been installed and one has been commissioned. By the month of February or March, another 6 would be added for the sake of passengers. It is learnt from some sources that with the introduction of ARTS baggage screening would become automated and the pressure on CISF would be lowered.

Point to be noted that the passengers had to wait for long times in queues to get their baggage scanned as the trays on which their electronic gadgets and wallets were placed had to be pushed manually over a conveyor towards scanning machine. This had often resulted in delays in the security process checking and lead t congestion in the peak hours of time.

The CISF or Central industrial Security Force have been checking as many as 400 bags in one hour until now and with the introduction of new facility CISF would be able to check 800 to 900 bags in one hour. It was later revealed by an official belonging to the airport that domestic terminal as chosen because congestion at the security check was high and many passengers had to travel with cabin baggage.

It is worth mentioning that in the international terminal most bags are checked in. Important information is the passenger screening capacity would increase by over 50% once when the new facility begins to function.
