Many devotees have been visiting the Kancheepuram based Sri Devarajaswamy temple for Athi Varadhar darshan is known. The latest news is this temple would get more than 5 lakh devotees on the last 4 days.

To avoid any unwanted incidents, police and district administration along with Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department have made elaborate arrangements. Information is the devotees have been requested to come prepared to spend 2 days or more in town as the crowds would swell.

In hold-up areas, facilities have been done to make the waiting of the devotees comfortable and traffic diversions have been effected. Point to be noted is regulating the crowd and doing bando bust duties in Kancheepuram has been carried out by as many as 11,000 police personnel and it includes 4 IGPs, half a dozen DIGs and 30 SPs. Monitoring the security arrangements on daily basis, ADGP (Law and order), Mr. Jayanth Murali, is campaigning in the Kancheepuram town.

It is amazing to mention that the last time devotees had Athi Vardhar darshan in 1979 just a single sub inspector managed the entire bando bust. It was later pointed out by ADGP, Mr. Jayanth Murali that initially HR & CE officials expected 15,000 to 20,000 devotees every day. Information is police expected as many as 50,000 to 70,000 devotees. Finally he spoke about how the police department is prepared for over 100,000 devotees as a precautionary step at the start of vaibhavam.

It must be taken into account that last month about 2 lakhs devotees visited the temple and now 2.5 lakhs are visiting. In regulating the crowd, course correction is being done constantly and this was revealed by the ADGP. This temple recently witnessed few stampedes and it is said that steps are taken to prevent stampedes.

Point is shortcomings found in the security arrangements have been rectified now and the devotees would have a superb darshan. Till 17th August, the police personnel would make sure that Athi Varadhar darshan is free from incidents.

It is worthy to note that massive hold-up areas has been created in 8 places little away from the temple and by this the congregation of the devotees would be avoided. These hold-up areas could hold as many as 10000 people and free food, water and toilet facilities are available to the devotees in these areas. ADGP, Mr. Jayanth Murali then explained about how doctors would be present here and how LED screens would display live darshan of Athi Varadhar.

Information gathered is mini buses have been arranged to drop the devotees close to the temple queue. These devotees would be kept in the shelters and would be let inside the queue. Devotees could have darshan without standing for long hours in the queue.
