CCTV cameras fixed in the stretch from Kilpauk and Koyambedu in Chennai city

Chennai city is a metropolitan city with many people and many crimes and accidents have been taking place in the Chennai roads inspite of the police personnel taking many steps to prevent these crimes and accidents. Police department had desired to bring every inch of Chennai city under surveillance. In the first step police have began to install CCTV cameras for every 50 metres on the arterial roads like Poonamallee High road, Anna Salai. R.K. Mutt Road, Nungambakkam High Road etc.

According to Mr. A.K. Viswanathan, commissioner of police, about 60% of cameras have been installed in the above stretches. On Wednesday, 28th November 2018, the police commissioner made his presence felt at the ceremony at the popular Ega Theatre junction. He inaugurated as many as 437 CCTV cameras installed on the Poonamallee High Road. The important piece of information is CCTV cameras have been fixed on the arterial stretch from Kilpauk to Koyambedu covering a distance of 9.5km. As many as 88 CCTV cameras out of total 437 cameras installed at many vantage points have been linked to centralised traffic police control room in the police commissioner’s office. The Chennai city police have strengthened the surveillance system as the CCTV cameras are highly beneficial in solving many crimes. It must be taken into account that personnel belonging to various wings of police such as traffic, law and order etc are working with the sponsors so that CCTV cameras could be installed in the respective neighbourhoods.

Police commissioner, Mr. Viswanathan, later spoke about how all commercial establishments as well as residences in Chennai city would have CCTV cameras fixed so that the miscreants could be caught plus issues like traffic and crowd management could be solved easily. He added that the department had conducted awareness drives on installing CCTV cameras among the members of the public. He explained about how the police department has identified atleast 21,802 small businesses, 15,345 important commercial complexes, marriage halls, hospitals and malls having capacity to host and share CCTV surveillance inputs with the police department.

Police commissioner, Mr. Viswanathan recently grabbed many eyeballs when he inaugurated 1000 CCTV cameras installed at 367 places in Nolambur police station limits. The amazing piece of news is the police have brought Nolambur as well as Seven Wells police station limits under the 100% CCTV coverage. It is now revealed that the remaining 134 police stations are doing their best to bring every nook and corner of their police station limits under surveillance.
