Soon IT companies in OMR, Chennai to face water crisis

There are many IT or Information and Technology companies in Old Mahabalipuram Road or OMR in Chennai and many persons work in these IT companies are known. It is now said that starting from 15th of October 2018 the water tanker associations would be going on an indefinite strike. As a result of the strike the IT companies present along the Rajiv Gandhi Salai in OMR would face water crisis. The reason for this indefinite strike by the water tanker associations is due to restrictions in drawing ground water for commercial establishments. It is important to mention here that OMR has got poor quality groundwater and it completely depends on the water tankers to meet their daily requirements.
Recently Madras High Court gave directions to the government to book those persons who engage in indiscriminate and unauthorised extraction of groundwater for commercial exploitation under offences of theft and mischief under IPC. The HC of Madras also wanted the government to initiate criminal prosecution. This news regarding the indefinite strike by the tankers association and water crisis to be faced by the IT companies in OMR has grabbed many eyeballs and is spoken by many now.
Mr. N. Nijalingam who is the president of south Chennai private water tanker lorry association expressed his views. He spoke about how water tankers in the state of Tamil Nadu would take part in the strike. He then spoke about the sealing of the bore wells in Poonamallee by the district administration. He added that landowners and tanker lorrys might be booked for extracting groundwater even for residential purposes. It is known that there is no ban for extracting groundwater for residential purposes. Mr. Nijalingam finally highlighted about the importance of this indefinite strike and said this strike was to make the government not to take any criminal action against them. It is revealed that 40 km stretch on Rajiv Gandhi Salai or OMR alone consumes as many as 1.2 crore litres of water got from outside every day. Out of this 50% is used by IT companies and by other companies located on the arterial road.
