The revenue of Chennai division of the southern railway is up now

Many people travel by trains as they are highly comfortable and faster when compared to travelling by bus. It is known that the Chennai division of southern railways has been doing superbly these days and is making huge noises.
The news now is this Chennai division of southern railway has done amazingly and its revenue had increased by 12.82 % when compared to the previous year for May month.
The total revenue earned for the May month was Rs 289. 50 crores. Out of these Rs 166.88 crores has come from the passengers. Some passengers who travelled without their travelling tickets paid penalty and the penalty amount is Rs 1.21 crores. It is important to note that the railway protection forces did their work remarkably and booked as many as 4002 cases under various sections of railway acts like touts, seats canvassing, unauthorized hawking, smoking, nuisance inside the trains etc. An amount of Rs 10.89 lakhs were collected from the above mentioned violation of the rules.
As many as 4.32 passengers used train services in May month and this accounted for 2.13 % rise. In the month of May, 261 special trains made their presence felt and this included suburban trains also.
In May, the railway protection force was simply superb and as many as 9 cases were registered under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act. Stolen railway materials of amount of Rs 11820 were recovered. Railway protection force of RPF made their presence felt in huge way by rescuing 39 destitute kids and 7 of them were handed over to their respective families.
Child help line plus police department played their roles in the rehabilitation of the remaining kids. The railway department has given the vehicle parking contacts at Perambur Carriage Works, Tiruttani, Maraimalai Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur railway stations.
It is worthy to note that southern railway was first established in the year 1951 with its head quarters in Chennai.
