The central government has emphasized to the telecom service companies that they should not insist on Aadhar card when the customer buys a SIM card.

All Indian citizens are being provided with Aadhar cards carrying the individual details. Aadhar card issue is being organized and given by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). Aadhar cards are being mandatory to obtain various concessional and subsidised offers by the central government.

Aadhar cards have been mandatory for linking with the bank savings account and get the mobile services.

Various petitions have been submitted to the Supreme Court against this. The Supreme Court established that the individual liberty is a basic right. Based on this, these petitions have been submitted for the Supreme Court Enquiry.

In this scenario, complaints have been received that the telecommunication service companies insist on Aadhar card to sell their SIM cards. Subsequently, the central government has issued an order regarding the issue of SIM card.

Accordingly, customers should not be insisted on giving Aadhar card details while they buy SIM cards. SIM cards can be sold/given even if Aadhar is not shown/furnished. Instead of Aadhar card, the customer can show the driving licence, voter ID, or other personal IDs. This order must be strictly followed forthwith.
