The superb piece of news now is tenders have been floated by NHAI or National Highways Authority of India so that four lane road for a distance of 44.3km could be laid between Madurai and Natham soon.

It is worthy to note that in the year 2015, PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi played his part in establishing Bharatmala Pariyojana. The main aim of this project was to centrally sponsor and fund road as well as highways project of government of India. It is now clear that this project would be making its presence felt in this four lane road connecting Madurai and Natham.

A staggering amount of Rs 980.4 crores would be spent on this work. This includes 7.3 km elevated four laned bridge connecting Pandian Hotel junction and Chettikulam plus widening the present 33.4 km two lanes into four lanes from Chettikulam to Natham.

To develop as many as 24800 road networks in India, NHAI launched this Bharatmala Pariyojana so that better connectivity for freight plus passenger traffic could be got.

The various road development works are widening of the existing roads plus development of interstate border roads and linking of industrial corridors with the national highway roads etc.

Under this programme, those national highway roads that are responsible for carrying more than 30,000 vehicles are chosen so that widening into four lanes could be done.

For development under economic corridor Mumbai-Kanyakumari plus Chennai-Madurai sections are chosen now. Under the phase one of the project, 11 roads that run for a distance of 1106 kms in the state of TN have been selected. Chennai-Puducherry feeder road for a distance of 137 km plus other feeder roads in Tirupur-Dindigul for a distance of 116 km and Madurai-Natham for a distance of 38 km are also identified and they would be widened to four lanes.
