On Friday 16th March 2018 tenth board examinations commenced and over 10 lakh students wrote the examination. It is now said that majority of students who wrote Tamil paper 1 found it difficult as questions were not familiar to them.

It must be noted that the students wrote their public examinations in as many as 3609 exam centres in Tamil Nadu as well as in Puducherry.

According to the teachers it is now clear that questions from one mark and two mark sections was tough for the students. An average student would find it tough to clear the exam and this was also confirmed by the teachers.

Teachers also complained about the scrapping of the blueprint system without any notice before. The teachers also held the Directorate of Government Exams responsible for this.

Reading the entire book by the students is of great advantage and those students who have read the entire book would be able to answer the questions. Scoring high marks would be difficult and the question paper was designed in such a way. Other sections were easy when compared to one mark and two mark questions.

It is important to note that out of 8000 students who sought exemption from the Tamil compulsory this 2018, 5040 students alone wrote the exam in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu etc.

In the year 2006 the Tamil Nadu Learning Act was passed and it made compulsory for the Tamil Nadu state students to write Tamil as their first language in class 10 exams. It is now said that the school education department is allowing students who seek exemption from the Tamil language exam.

According to the court order the students are allowed to write their exams in their own mother tongue. During the tenth board examinations some students indulged in malpractices also and they were caught.
