OLA and Uber Call Taxi Drivers announce strike from Sunday

Posted on: 16/Mar/2018 5:28:42 PM
The call-taxi drivers employed by call-taxi service companies OLA and Uber have announced that they will go on an indefinite strike as the companies had failed to keep the promises given to them.

OLA/Uber call taxi drivers informed that the strike will be in the cities of New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and others.

Sanjay Naik, the President of the OLA and Uber taxi drivers ‘Association, explained:

`Both the companies have entered into a contract with the drivers with a promise of monthly earnings of up to Rs. 1.5 Lakhs.

Believing the drivers invested from Rs. 5 Lakhs to Rs. 7 Lakhs and bought cars. However, they could not earn even a part of this promised amount so far.

The entire revenue is earned only by the 2 companies OLA and Uber. They treat the 2 cases – the first where they use their own cabs and the second, when they use the drivers’ cabs, with entirely different approaches.

They issued the letter of promise under the Mudra Scheme and arranged loans for the drivers. However, their part of the payment on this investment is still pending. Still, they have not paid this due.

So, there has arisen a situation where our cabs of the drivers may be confiscated for default in payment.

If the drivers’ demands are not met, they plan to go on strike from the midnight of Sunday (Sunday, 18th March).

The officials of the Department of transport must take actions on the violations of the cab service companies.`

OLA has not responded when enquires on this. However, Uber has responded informing that there are no prospects of the strike to happen.
