No time to have your breakfast. No more worries hereafter for those people taking trains in many suburban places such as Annanur, Perambur Carriage Works, Pattaravakkam and Korukkupet. Soon the stations in these places would have food stalls opened for the passengers.

Vegetarian based food items plus snacks would be available in these food stalls in these suburban railway stations. As many as 80 catering units would be making their presence felt in these suburban stations and the super piece of news is the Chennai division of southern railway is in the process of floating tenders so that contractors could be identified in this regard.

It is known that MRTS stations in places like Chepauk, Tiruvallikeni and Tirumailai are often frequented by the travellers. In these places also food stalls would be started. Bigger stations like Chennai Beach, Chengalpet plus others like Chennai Central and Nungambakkam would not be left behind and additional food stalls would be started in these areas also.

By the end of this year 2018 people taking trains in atleast 100 railway stations would be surprised to see the presence of catering units.

According to a senior official it is now confirmed that the passengers wanted food stalls that would sell snacks, coffee and tea. It is now said that the upcoming food units in the railway stations would be providing vegetarian food items at controlled rates.

It must be noted that in places like Velachery and Thiruvanmiyur IRCTC or Indian Railway catering and Tourism Corporation has identified contractors to set up food plazas.

These two stations are visited by many people in Chennai city and the plan to set up food units in these two railway stations would make as many as 1.1 lakh passengers happy.

Mr Baskar who is a member of Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee spoke about how in the past all stations had food units but were closed.
