It is known that purchase of e-buses or electric buses is expensive and many states in India are reluctant to buy new e-buses as a part of ‘Go Green’ initiative.

Union ministry of road transport and highways has been working on a plan for the sake of people regarding transportation. The latest news that has come out now is this union ministry of road transport and highways are working on new design of e-buses and it is now brought out that this new design would reduce the cost of purchasing new e-buses by amazing 80 percent.

A senior official belonging to state transport department expressed his thoughts regarding this and spoke about how a single e-bus costs as much as Rs 1.5 crores. The official further spoke about their working with the centre to design a model. This new model would cost less than Rs 0.5 crores and that would be superb.

Recently in New Delhi a fair organised by automobile manufacturers caught the attention of many. It must be noted that Mr. Vijayabhaskar transport minister for the state of Tamil Nadu earlier hinted that city of Chennai would be purchasing new 200 electric buses. This minister visited the above mentioned fair at New Delhi for this purpose of electric buses procurement.

It is now confirmed that there were many discussions between manufacturers and ministry officials regarding e-buses and as a result it is now revealed that once after the design gets finalised procurement of e-buses would take place.

It must not be forgotten that in the month of June in the year 2017 a trial run was carried out and issues such as seating capacity plus overall cost came out.

It is important to mention that currently 3 lithium ion batteries are fitted to the bus and time period of 6 hours is needed for recharging the batteries. Installation of these batteries as a package is being considered.

The good news is experts belonging to government sectors and from local manufacturers are working on two models. In one model swapping of batteries is being considered and in the second model battery would be recharged for 3 to 5 minutes after e-bus has travelled 30 to 35 km distance.

The second model mentioned above is favoured by the state government now. In all the metropolitan transport corporation or MTC depots charging stations would be set up. Technicians present at the depots would play the role of changing of used up batteries with fully charged batteries in few minutes of time.
