Soon, walkalator between Tirusulam Metro and Chennai Airport

Chennai Airport officials have said that a walkalator connecting the Chennai airport and the Tirusulam metro railway station will be open to the public in a few months.

According to the official, The project, which was underway for a few years, now, is in a finishing a stage and soon will be for use by the public. Due to space crunch the arrival hall in the international terminal has not been used. Airports Authority of India, or AAI, has allocated Rs 1,500 crore for renovation works and the buildings in the old domestic terminal will be demolished and new ones will be built. Apart from this, Rs.99 crore has been allocated for the quality improvement of the runway and to construct a new taxiway. The airport needs another 150 acres for expansion to bring it to International standards and they have requested the state government of the same. We have been allocated 3 acres so far and talks are underway to get the remaining land.

Earlier in the day, the airport director signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chennai corporation to help treat solid waste in three wards in Alandur zone at a cost of Rs.32.6 lakh.
