The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that the intensity of heat is likely to go up in the next few days in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The Northeast monsoon rainy season lasted till 15th January in this season. So, the intensity of the cold weather which is normally experienced during the Tamil calendar month of Margazhi (December-January) was less in various parts of the state of Tamil Nadu.

Further, the frequent rains also held the intensity of cold rather low. Only in the mountainous regions, a minimum temperature of 6 Degrees Celsius was recorded.

In this situation, of late, there has been an increase in both the minimum and the maximum temperature recorded in various parts of the state.

The Chennai Metro City, as on yesterday (Monday, 12th February), the minimum temperature has gone up to 24 Degrees Celsius. In the previous few days, the average minimum temperature was 21 Degrees Celsius.

The officials from the Chennai Meteorological Centre explained the phenomenon of increasing minimum and maximum temperature that as there groups of clouds persisting in the atmosphere over the Chennai Metro City, the minimum temperature has gone up. As the season changes over from the winter season to summer season, the Sun tends to rise earlier. This has led to an increase in the intensity of heat. The intensity of heat will keep increasing gradually in the next few days.
