Sivakamipuram, neighbouring Pavurchathiram in the district of Tirunelveli, is well-known for its wholesale flower market.

The farmers who grow flowers such as jasmine, mullai, kendhi, and others in the are of Keezhappavur and the neighbourhood bring their yields to this market for sales.

The local flower traders from Nellai, Sankarankovil, Thenkasi and other neighbouring places buy the above flowers on an auction basis. These flowers are also transported on the wholesale basis to the state of Kerala as well.

Presently, due to the factors like shortage of rain and the residents being affected by infectious diseases, the growth of Kendhi flower has gone down to the minimum. This has reduced the kendhi flowers arriving in the market. In order to meet the demands of the retail traders, the wholesale traders buy kendhi flowers from Hosur. However, due to the recent excessive rains, the kendhi flowers grown in the Hosur region got rotten, the quantity of kendhi flowers dispatched from here has also severely come down.

Because of the above factor, kendhi flowers which were sold at Rs. 30 per kg a few weeks ago, is now being sold at Rs. 70 to Rs. 80 per kg over the past 3 days mainly due to the shortage.
