Heavy rains over Andaman and Nicobar likely to continue

Posted on: 27/Nov/2017 3:51:53 PM
The low-pressure area that was persisting over the Bay of Bengal along with a feeble cyclonic circulation has given good rains over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the past day. Although the chain of Island has already been receiving moderate to heavy spells. Though the intensity of rains was more over the southern part of the Island in contrast with the northern parts of the Coral Island.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Sunday, Nan Cowry and Car Nicobar both recorded heavy rains to the tune of 72 mm and 55 mm respectively. While Port Blair that lies in the northern part of the Island recorded a few traces.

As of now, these moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue for the next 48 hours and will reduce thereafter. However, light to moderate rains is still expected to continue. As the low-pressure area is persisting in the Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea, the southern islands of Andaman and Nicobar will receive more rains in comparison with the northern parts.

Thereafter, as per Skymet Weather, another low-pressure area is expected to develop over southeast Bay of Bengal on around November 29 or 30 which may once again trigger heavy to very heavy rains. However, again the southern islands of Andaman and Nicobar will receive good rains as compared with the northern parts of the Island. The northern parts of the chain of Island will continue with light to moderate spells.

Thereafter, this low-pressure area will start traveling towards the north, away from Andaman and Nicobar Islands leading to a gradual decrease in rains.
