Rains to reduce over Tamil Nadu

Posted on: 07/Nov/2017 5:53:30 PM
The state of Tamil Nadu has recorded a few very heavy spells of rains during the last few days. So much so that three digit rainfall has been recorded in many parts. Meanwhile, Kerala has also recorded a few good spells of rainfall during the same time period.

The last 24 hours were less rainy as only light to moderate showers were seen over the state. However, some heavy spells were seen over Kerala and even isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Thiruvananthapuram witnessed a whopping 51 mm of rains,  Parangipettai 35 mm, Kannur 20 mm, Ooty 20 mm, Karaikal 19 mm, Chennai 15 mm, Palayamkottai 18 mm, and Palakkad 15 mm.

Now, the cyclonic circulation which was persisting over Southwest Bay of Bengal and Tamil Nadu coast has become less marked. The system is now seen as a feeble trough which has shifted southwards and is now running south of Sri Lanka.

Due to this, the rain intensity over Tamil Nadu will decrease significantly, Chennai may receive isolated rains, but southern districts of Tamil Nadu may receive light to moderate showers for another 24 hours.

Another cyclonic circulation which was over Southeast Arabian Sea is now over Lakshadweep area. A trough is also extending up to East central Arabian Sea. Thus, light to moderate rains are expected to continue over Kerala for another 48 hours.

Thereafter, rains will reduce over Kerala as well. Thus, after two days, most of Tamil Nadu will go dry and rains will also reduce significantly over Kerala. Northeast Monsoon will become subdued for a few days during that time.
