Kamal raises voice against a new issue

One day ago, actor Kamal Hassan gave a clue about forming an anti-corruption platform to address the various issues faced in the state. And now, the actor has slewed attention towards an even more serious issue! Now, Kamal has joined the campaign for state’s fishermen to save Ennore Creek which is a backwater located in Thiruvallur district.

In December 2015, the entire Chennai city got devastated with floods mainly due to improper natural drainage system, especially the Ennore Creek that were chocked. Further, due to incessant showers, the total volume of water kept soaring and the water draining system is damn slow. The main reasons for this poor drainage system is unplanned building construction and encroachments in the water body.

It is not that the Ennore creek got killed in a single night! Its death has been taking place as an eventual happening over the past three decades triggered by commission and omission.

As monsoon is nearing, Kamal Hassan has come forward to address this very important issue with his tweets.

Close to Chennai, there is Kosasthalai River. This provides livelihood to the fishermen, and has not got drained still. About 1090 acres of land is lost because of selfish encroachments made without bothering about the environment. Ash and effluents from the Vallur Thermal Plant and north Chennai Thermal plant keep getting dumped into Kosasthalai, says Kamal.

In spite of protest by environmental activists for years, the government remains indifferent still.
