Speaker disqualifies 18 AIADMK MLAs

Today, the Tamil Nadu assembly Speaker P Dhanpal disqualified 18 AIADMK MLAs all of who were supporters of TTV Dhinakaran, the deputy general secretary of sidelined party. Under the Schedule 10 of the Indian Constitution that pertains to anti-defection law, the MLAs were disqualified.
Under Schedule 10 of the constitution, the Speaker has initiated action. Hence, the below mentioned MLAs thus become disqualified and they lose their position as MLAs, reads a statement by assembly secretary K Boopathy.

All the rebel MLAs are summoned to appear before the Speaker. However, not everyone appeared, but only a few in spite of rolling out notices in this regard several times.
About 19 MLAs met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and handed over letters for withdrawing their support to the present CM Edappadi K Palaniswami. This followed EPS faction, and after the EPS faction group merged.
AIADMK strength dips
As 18 MLAs get disqualified, the AIADMK strength has come down to 116. While the DMK has 89 members, Congress has 8 MLAs and IUML has 1 member. There are totally 234 members with the assembly in the RK Nagar and the former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha represented the others as vacant ones.
As 18 MLAs are disqualified, about 19 seats are now vacant. So, there are only 215 members in the assembly. In case of floor test, 108 votes is the necessity to prove majority.
For this decision by the Speaker, TTV supporters said they would appeal to the court, opposing the Speakers decision.
