Hike of minimum salary of central govt. employees likely

Posted on: 06/Sep/2017 5:03:17 PM
It is likely that the Modi government may increase the minimum salary for central government employees from the present Rs 18,000 to Rs 21,000, says a recent media report. However, there is no official announcement in this regard so far.

The basic pay was pegged at Rs 7,000 during the last pay panel. And this was later increased to Rs 18,000 according to the fitment formula as the 7th pay commission proposed. The central government employees have however been requesting for hiking their minimum salary to Rs 25,000 based on fitment formula of 3.68, say reports.

When this increase in salary gets approved, it is likely that the hike shall be implemented starting from 1st January 2016. This is because the legislation may need an adjustment to be done towards Consumer Price Index, say reports.

Amidst these, the government employees from Odisha have got one more god news that the State Cabinet may approve the 7th Pay Commission during its meet scheduled. This Cabinet will discuss whether or not to modify or implement the recommendations proposed.

On the whole, for all the 8 lakh employees, the total arrears to be paid is about Rs 9,000 crore. The way in which arrears will be distributed is yet to be decided – it may either be done in instalments or directly transferred to PF of employees.
