Very first theatre in the then Madras

In this age of multiplex theatres, it is a cakewalk to grab a movie ticket and enjoy watching flicks! But have you ever given a thought about where the first cinema theatre in Chennai was set up?
 
You might have recently heard the shutdown of Erstwhile Gaiety Theatre. For those who don’t know, it is the very first permanent cinema theatre set up in the then Madras. Mr Raghupathy Venkatesh set up a chain of theatres across South India. After Gaiety, he constructed Crown Theatre on Mint Street followed by Globe on Purasawalkam High Road and then the Imperial Theatre in Madurai.
 
Chennai High Court:
Spread across the vast area of 107 acres, the Chennai High Court stands magnificent as the largest judicial complex in the world – yes, it is! This is one of the 3 High Courts present in our country.
 
How was Adyar River in the past?
The Adyar River was a blissful and soothing destinations for children to play and enjoy the evening. Around 1950s, the river was a very clean and beautiful landscape where children enjoy fresh water, men rowing the place. Sadly, today, it is an eyesore with too many pollutants contaminating the river!
