Saiva Siddhanta Publishing Society governor R. Muthukumaraswamy passes away

Saiva Siddhantha Publishing Society`s managing governor, R. Muthukumaraswamy passed away at his residence in Alwarpet, Chennai. He was 80 years old.

Mr. R. Muthukumaraswamy was a multi-talented personality. He was born to Rajagopal Pillai and Valliammal. He was a B. A. and qualified in Library science as well.

He worked as a Librarian in the Chennai Maraimalai Adigal Library from 1957 to 1984.

After the death of Thamarai Thiru. V. Subbaiah Pillai in 1984, Mr. Muthukumaraswamy assumed the position of the Governor of the Saiva Siddhantha Society and was excelling in his administrative skills.

He was a multi-talented personality and was the editor of the magazine Semtamizhselvi which publishes articles on Sangam Tamil Literature and Thirukkural.

Mr. Muthukumaraswamy was a member of the Special editorial committee for the release of the special journal on the 2nd World Tamil Conference held in Chennai.

He was also the Secretary of the 5th World Tamil Conference which was held in Madurai presided by the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M. G. Ramachandran. He did a great job and earned excellent appreciation from one and all for his contribution.

When he was the President of the South India Book Traders and Publishers Association, he set up a permanent book exhibition. This was inaugurated by the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

He received the Thiruvalluvar Award in the year 2004 from the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

He had read over 50000 books. The Maraimalai Adigal Library, inaugurated with the assistance from the Saiva Siddhantha Society, is still functioning as smoothly as ever.

When he was a student in Pachaiyappa’s College, Dr. M. Varadarajan and Professor Anbazhagan were the Tamil teachers.Mr. Muthukumaraswamy had written 6 books and also translated from English, the work titled ‘Karumani Malar’, which was a remarkable and well-appreciated work. He had also published several excellent books through the Saiva Siddhantha Publishing society.
 
The final rites of Mr. R. Muthukumaraswamy were performed at 12.00 Noon on Wednesday (16th August) at the Electric Crematorium, Mylapore.
