Posted on: 07/Aug/2017 6:07:29 PM
The capital city of Tamil Nadu has been receiving rains since the beginning of August. In fact, the intensity of rain has increased in August. So much so that the Nungambakkam observatory of Chennai witnessed a good 34 mm of rainfall a day before.

These nonstop rains have made the weather pleasant across the city and nearby adjoining areas. Yesterday as well light rains were recorded in Chennai.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 AM on Sunday, Nungambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded 15 mm of rain. However, Meenambakkam observatory only witnessed light rains.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to an upper air trough which prevails in the mid tropospheric levels. Due to this weather system, moisture increased over the city and adjoining areas leading in cloud development and rain.

As per weatherman at Skymet Weather, Chennai is expected to witness light rains during the next 24 to 48 hours. The rains will mainly occur in pockets in the city and adjoining areas. Though, the possibility of isolated moderate rains over few areas cannot be ruled.

The maximum and minimum temperatures have reduced by two to three degrees and the mercury levels are not likely to increase as of now. As on August 6, Chennai is rain deficient by 5 percent. The rain deficiency is likely to reduce with these continuous rains over the region.
