How to prevent the spreading of Dengue fever?

Posted on: 27/Jul/2017 10:10:55 AM
Dengue fever, which was wildly rampant recently in Kerala state affecting many, has now started spreading in Tamil Nadu.

Dengue is caused by viral infection. It spreads mainly through mosquitoes from a person to another.

The type of mosquitoes, known as Aedes mosquitoes proliferate in the stagnant water areas - broken and unused cement tanks, tanks uncleaned for a long time, grinding pestles, plastic plates and cups, coconut shells, pots, buckets, and other water storage vessels, empty cans. tins. containers, and tyres. When these mosquitoes bite, people get affected with dengue.

When the same mosquito bites another, this person also gets affected with dengue and it spreads like this.

Aedes mosquitoes generally bite humans only during the sunny forenoon and afternoon sessions. It is also true that dengue does not spread through saliva, cough, or sneezing.

So, all one has to do to prevent dengue fever is to ensure that there no production/proliferation of Aedes mosquitoes in the respective localities. Ensure weekly washing of tanks (with bleaching powder) used for storing water. Ensure that all water storage vessels are covered fully and properly.

Again, ensure 100% that there is no stagnant water anywhere in the locality. Ensure that young children sleep in the mosquito nets especially in the noon sessions.

How to treat?

Here is doctors’ advice:

If the fever has persisted for 2 days, take the patient immediately to the doctor and get all the tests done. If dengue is confirmed, it can be cured with the right treatment and proper attention.

Take the dosage of medicines in proper time as advised by the doctor. Dengue tends to dehydrate the body. So, take items like gruel with a pinch of salt or tender coconut or O. R. S. liquid food given in the hospitals in good quantities.

If the fever persists, take a cotton cloth piece, dip it in warm water and gently rub on the forehead, neck, underarms, chest, and stomach. This will bring the fever down.

Please do not use ice cubes or chilled water. If the doctor advises getting admitted as an inpatient for treatment, please follow the advice. You have to especially careful in the 1st 3 days after the dengue gets cured. In case there is the loss of appetite or suffering from extreme body fatigue, better to consult the doctor again.

Symptoms:

The most important symptoms of dengue fever are – fever, feeling of exhaustion, headache, body ache, vomiting sensation and actual vomiting, pain in the bones, and swollen red spots on the skin.

Blood plate nuclei are the important reasons for the blood to clot. Dengue virus attacks and destroys these blood plate nuclei. So, observe the symptoms and take immediate treatment as necessary. Note that there is also the possibility of loss of life due to dengue fever.
