By this weekend, Chennaites are set to get a special feature in Tambaram station that is not even available at Chennai Central. At the new coaching terminal built for Chennai, there is going to be a major food plaza where you can get vegetarian, non-vegetarian as well as fast food dishes.

This is claimed to be the largest food plaza in terms of area. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will be inaugurating the plaza soon during his weekend visit to the city.

The food plaza at Chennai Central in Tambaram is widespread at an area of 12,000 sqft. At a time, over 600 people can dine in here.

Over the next 12 years, the estimated income to the Indian Railways is 50 crore in license fees out of the project.

There are going to be Saravana Bhavan, Adyar Ananda Bhavan and Madras Coffee House. It’s not just these, but also the outlet by international fast food chain McDonalds will be set up at the railway station in the plaza. One more local player, Madurai Kumar Mess is also likely to be set up. An exclusive counter to set up Rail Neer water bottles will be there, and there will be additional juice stalls as well. This 3-storey building lying on GST road will be fire-proof along with water sprinkler systems, says Mr N Gopinathan, the chief project consultant of JS Caterers, the licensee.
