State government employees on an indefinite strike

The indefinite strike called by the state government employees commenced yesterday (25th April, Tuesday). As most employees did not turn up for work, hardly any activities were undertaken and there was no progress in pending works.

As a part of the strike, it is understood that tomorrow (Thursday, 27th April) and the next day (Friday, 28th April), the employees will go on picketing demonstration is the districts.

The 6 demands pressed by the state government employees include withdrawal of the new pension scheme, filling up the vacancies in various government departments, pay structure equivalent to the central government, consolidated pay, time-based payments for the employees in honorarium, etc. As per the announcement by Tamil Nadu government employees union and Tamil Nadu all department employees union, the employees have gone on an indefinite strike from 25th April.

Because of this work in the government departments are at a standstill. Especially, the usually busy government departments like revenue, rural development, commercial tax, and city administration were almost unoccupied with no work progress.

The Chepauk Ezhilagam complex, which houses various government department head offices such as the offices of the revenue administration commissioner, Corporation administration commissioner, the director of the Adi Dravida and Ancient Tribes, etc. were almost empty.
