Avoid going out during mid day between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM

The Chennai Metro Corporation has strongly advised the public not to venture out in the scorching sun - between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM.

If going out is unavoidable, the Corporation advises taking an umbrella, water bottle or else hat or head covering cloth.

As the meteorological centre has already forecast a severe summer this year, The Chennai Corporation Commissioner has come up with some guidance regarding a few actions to be taken as a protection from the summer. He has suggested organising awareness camps to advise the public regarding this and also take all preventive action for the public to be protected during this severe summer.

Some preventive measures:
  • Sufficient stocks of saline/glucose water (ORS) packets are kept in all corporation hospitals and Amma canteens.
  • A special section has been set up in Tondiarpet Corporation Hospital for the treatment of all summer time complaints such as diarrhoea, chickenpox, Rubella, and severe headache, etc.
  • Sufficient stocks of medicines are kept.
  • Doctors and medical attendants are available 24 hours working on a rotational basis.
  • Health department personnel have been seizing expired and impure water cans/packets, food items which are dust gathered and flies around in the open air.
For the public:
  • Avoid going out in the mid day sun - between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM.
  • If it is unavoidable, take a water bottle and umbrella or cap or head covering cloth.
  • In case feeling giddy under exposure to the hot sun, visit the nearest government general hospital or corporation hospital.
  • Drink sufficient quantity of water.
