Scoring of centum cancelled for Tamil and English 10th Standard Public Exam

The scope to score 100 percent or full marks (known as centum) in the subjects of English and Tamil of the 10th Standard Public Examination has been cancelled.

The checking of the answer sheets of the recently concluded 10th Standard Public Examinations commenced on 1st April. On the 1st day, the principal assessors/correctors of the answer sheet started checking the answer sheets.

From 2nd April, the checking of answer sheets is taken up by the assistant assessors/correctors.

It was established that some of the students who scored 100 percent were really struggling to write in Tamil and also found to perform poorly in the +1 and +2 examinations.

So, a new regulation has been brought up that there will be no 100 percent (centum) awarded for the Language subjects – Tamil and English. In case there are cases of 100 percent marks, an order has been given to recheck the same.

The Examination Board has carried out a striking change by reducing the possibility of awarding 100 percent. In the 1st page of the assessment of the answer sheet set, where the final marks are to be entered, the boxes where the scored marks are to be entered has been designed only for 2 digits and no scope for recording 100 marks. There is a dot mark on the 3rd box.

However, for other subjects apart from the language, 3 boxes are retained to facilitate awarding 100 percent marks.

Thus, the information gathered from the department of examination board is that there would be no cases of 100 percent marks scored in the language subjects of English and Tamil.
