Specialties of Chenani to Nashri tunnel

The Chenani-Nashri tunnel inauguration is scheduled for 2nd April. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will grace the inauguration. The tunnel lies along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and holds the pride of being the longest in the country.
It cuts down on the travel time between Jammu and Srinagar. This also ensures that there will be no hindrance during winter or at times of natural disasters like landslide. The Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, addressing as press meet on 22nd March claimed the tunnel to be an engineering marvel laid along the tough terrain of the Himalayas.
The project has been taking place for about 4 years. Now, the tunnel will be available for public use soon.
It is believed that the tunnel running along 10.89 km distance will greatly reduce the travel time between Jammu and Srinagar. A distance of 41 km will be cut down and the travel time will reduce by 4 hours. The tunnel will be available for user during winters so that people have better connectivity throughout the year. The tunnel will also save fuel consumption. Approximately, fuel worth Rs 27 lakh can be saved every day.
