World water day today (22nd March) - We must save every single drop of water

Posted on: 22/Mar/2017 2:58:02 PM
World water is observed today (Wednesday, 22nd March). Truth to tell, we are observing this day only on a very nominal basis, The urgency of the need to save every single drop of water is not felt by most of us. In this situation, we also observe that crores of people in different parts of the world are struggling to cope up with water shortage.

The main objective of World Water Day is to create strong public awareness about conserving water and strive to expand all available sources of water.

It is obvious that all living kind cannot live without water. There is a well-known proverb in Tamil that the world does not exist without water.  Lands are only 30 percent of the earth’s total area. The remaining 70 percent is water. However, the planet earth has been gradually losing the scope to cater to the demands of water for the living organism in 30 percent of its area.

Around 40 percent of the people in the world are struggling with the shortage of water.

However, the experts in this field opine that proper recycling of water will help improve the situation to a great extent.

Another aspect of the conservation of water is to note that there is a scope for being a little more careful while doing our small day-to-day chores. For example, we can keep the tap closed while brushing our teeth. This can help save 6 liters of water every minute. We must remember to close the water tap once we have completed the chore. This is an important point which will conserve large quantities of water.

When pumping water to the overhead tanks, we need to take care to prevent any overflow when the water gets filled.

Rainwater harvesting is another avenue with plenty of scope for water saving and avoid wastage.

Remember

Please do not observe just 1day as the World Water day. Keep in mind to be acutely aware of the demand for water and the need to conserve it and act accordingly. Do you know how long anyone can live without drinking water? Maybe a week? But, one has to perish after that. So, please do appreciate the enormous significance of the need to save and conserve water – it is, indeed, our utmost duty to conserve every single drop of water.
