Travel in train even without ticket confirmation

Posted on: 22/Mar/2017 12:59:05 PM
Indian railway passengers can travel on Rajdhani or Shatabdi trains even without booking train tickets in other mail or express trains heading to the same destinations.

Starting from 1st of April, the Indian Railways is launching a new scheme. This will allow confirmation of accommodation for all waitlisted passengers. The arrangement will be made in the next alternative train. To avail this option, at the time of booking tickets, the passenger should have selected the respective option.

The passenger will not have to bear with any extra charge for the same, and neither will he be eligible for refund of difference in fare.

It is called the Vikalp
Vacant berths in premier trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and special services like Suvidha trains etc will be used to provide alternate accommodation to waitlist passengers.

The Railways will have to forego close to Rs 7500 crore in a year for refunding to customers for ticket cancellation.

This scheme is passenger friendly as it helps passengers travel in trains even if their ticket does not get confirmed, said a senior Railway Ministry official. The available accommodation will be optimally used and at the same, passengers get their tickets confirmed.

Following the introduction of flexi-fare system in premier trains, there are vacancies in trains while there are passengers who do not get accommodation in other trains because of very high demand.
