Following the conviction of V.K Sasikala by the Supreme Court in disproportionate assets case against her, late CM Jayalalitha and two others, the MLAs made to stay at Kuvatthur Golden Bay Resort had elected Edappadi K Palanisamy as the legislature party leader

In his native constituency, Edappadi, Palanisamy has got elected as the MLA for four times. He is the state minister for highways and minor ports.
Following the demise of former Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha and Paneerselvam becoming the next CM, it was Palanisamy who has requested Sasikala to acquire the post.
At the time of MGR’s death and split of the party, he stood by the side of Jayalalitha. He was ranked after Paneerselvam, Natham R Viswamathan and R Vaithilingam in Jayalalitha’s cabinet.
He is widely projected to belong to the Nalvar Ani of Jayalalitha who are all her close coterie.
Palanisamy has been trustworthy to Jayalalitha and relayed all her messages to the party.
Palanisamy had filed a defamation case against EVKS Elangovan the President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee who had imposed corruption charges against him in a Tamil Newspaper.
