Posted on: 21/Jan/2017 2:51:10 PM
Protests against the ban of Jallikattu are taking place day and night in the Marina beach. The traffic and the crowd can be calculated through Google Maps. As per this, if we see the Google Maps one can see the protest crowds and their strength in Marina.

How Google Maps does works?

In the year 2009, Google changed itself into a technology called Crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing aims to tap the collective wisdom of users to improve its services. To use this, My Location should be kept on On mode in the mobile phone. With this, the Google will be able to know in which location you are and what speed are you moving.  Suppose numbers of vehicles reach a particular spot, the Google can track number of the vehicles and what speed they are moving. You can also share these details with everyone.

How is this done?

Google uses your smartphone to collect information about traffic status.. As you travel on a road, your smartphone keeps on transmitting its location back to Google. From this information, Google calculates the speed at which you’re traveling and from the speed of all the phones on that road, Google figures out whether the traffic is smooth or snarling. Using the same method Google was able to show the crowd in Marina Beach. 90 percent of the protestors use smartphones.

How to see the traffic in Google Maps?

Go to the website maps.google.com and click the Menu and select Traffic. Now you can see the current traffic in all the parts of Chennai. Google shows the protestors in Marina in red colour.
