The Aadhar card coverage in Tamil Nadu until August this year was 6.4 crore out of 7.63 crore. About 4.71 crore of them have submitted their Aadhar details to FPS, say officials. Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur are the three districts that have recorded maximum Aadhar card coverage each with 38 lakhs, 37.27 lakhs and 35.35 lakhs respectively. The lowest coverage is observed at Perambalur district with 5.41 lakhs.

Out of 1,22,82,29,800 population in the country, there is 82 percent coverage, say census reports. The Aadhar coverage is 1,04,40,21,338 until now. According to officials, Aadhar and ration card changes are currently in progress and the deadline of 31st December is fast approaching. This scares elders who are unable to walk, as they will not be able to get ration provisions without getting smart cards. To get the smart card, one needs Aadhar card details. Aadhar card details from consumers are accepted at fair price shops.

Hence, the elders have started approaching touts to get Aadhar staff to get the needful done. The charge for the same depends on the prevailing distance between house and office.

One off the 87 year old says she sought help from local touts as she is not able to walk. Who are touts is a question here for those who do not know them. Touts are those who walk down to the taluk office very often and help people get pattas.
