North east monsoon to visit a little late

Posted on: 17/Oct/2016 5:11:23 PM
There are a few more days for us to wait for north east monsoon. Weathermen observe slight clouds over Tamil Nadu. Though the sky will look partly cloudy, the chances of rainfall are little. A few parts of the state will receive rain showers, they add.

The meteorological department has stated that the northern parts of Tamil Nadu will receive rain showers in the next two days, whereas places like Chennai will continue being dry.

Satellite images show slightly cloudy nature in Chennai which will give enough relief from heat. Temperature will vary between 25 degree celsius and 36 degree celsius during this week.

Generally, the north east monsoon onsets between 12th and 28th of October, but now, the onset is unlikely before 20th October, says S. Balachandran, the director of cyclone warning centre. In fact, nearly 60 percent of annual rain showers received in the state is from this monsoon.

On Sunday, the maximum and minimum temperature recordings were 33.7 degree celsius and 25.1 degree celsius. As far as the mean temperature sourced between 1971 and 2000 is taken into account, the average minimum and maximum temperatures are 24.5 degree celsius and 31.8 degree celsius.
