Cement rate goes up

Posted on: 11/Feb/2016 2:36:45 PM
There is a price hike in cement used for building construction in Tamil Nadu yet again. A baggage of cement is hiked by Rs 10 and sold at Rs 420 now.

In Tamil Nadu, cement manufacturers hike cement price twice a year: once before the onset of north-ease monsoon (September and October) and once again before budgeting (January and February).

In 2015, cement which was priced Rs 390 per baggage was hiked by Rs 40 and sold at Rs 430. Building construction projects got badly affected by this and most projects were shelved due to the price hike. Following this, manufacturers came forward for reducing price to Rs 410. However, contrary to this, there is a price hike on cement once again. This has put the public and building construction companies in shock.

Speaking about this, one of the senior officials of the Indian Cement Manufacturers Association from Tamil Nadu said heavy showers in the state has caused devastating effects here. At this point of time, it is important to show more focus on repairing damaged buildings rather than raising new buildings. We are currently involved in the same. This price hike at such serious juncture is truly unacceptable. This shows the hostile nature of manufacturers. The Tamil Nadu government has to poke into the issue and bring a solution to it.
