Madras Round Table 1 donates Rs. 5 lakhs to Vidya Sagar Foundation

Madras Round Table 1 (MRT1) and Actor Arvind Swamy made a joint contribution of Rs. 5 lakhs to Vidya Sagar Foundation to support to help children with special needs. The Cheque was received by Grand Master Viswanathan Anand who is the Ambassador and patron of Vidya Sagar Foundation. Vidya Sagar today runs several programmes reaching out to over 3800 individuals with disabilities mainly children having started with only three children in 1985.

 Viswanathan Anand, said his heart was filled with gratitude for the great work done by Tablers by raising funds for Vidya Sagar Foundation (VSF). He quoted Helen Keller, and said The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with heart. This is exactly what this group of people who call themselves Tablers are doing. May your tribe increase

Arvind Swami, who is also the ex-chairman of MRT1 said, While engaging in some activity that benefits us, we should also keep in mind society at large. He added, We have the wish and want, but you’re either too lazy or there’s trouble finding the right profile of people to give it to, this is where MRT1 provides reliability.

Puneet Gupta, Chairman, MRT 1, said the first Round Table in India was started in Madras Chennai way back in 1958. Since then, MRT 1 has played an active role in supporting the underprivileged, with a special focus on healthcare and education.

 Puneet Gupta, added MRT1 undertakes healthcare initiatives such as building hospital blocks, sponsoring heart surgeries, eye surgeries, conducting medical camps and blood drives. The most recent initiative was to raise funds to support underprivileged children suffering from cancer.

 Ranvir Ranjit, Community Service Convenor ,said MRT1 over the years has supported construction of classrooms, dining facilities and toilets at various schools. The Lady Nye MRT1 School provides free education for 650 children and residential support for 200 underprivileged children and orphans. He added, we are a registered charitable trust with zero-overheads, thus enabling 100% usage of funds towards our causes. All donations enjoy 80-G exemption.
