As arrival of quantity of pineapple reduces, price shoots up 4 times!!

Pineapples are transported from Kochi, Kerala State to Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market.Usually, they used to arrive in 12 trucks.

As the rains were erratic this year, harvest of pineapple was lesser. Further, as this is the fasting month of Ramzan, pineapples are being exported to Saudi Arabia.

Hence, the quantity arriving at Koyambedu wholesale market has reduced. in the current period. Only 2 Lorries carrying pineapples are brought.

So, the price of pineapple has shot up by 4 times!

Earlier, pineapple was sold at Rs. 35/- to Rs. 45/- per kg.

Now, the price of pineapple is Rs. 140/- per kg!

A single pineapple was sold earlier at Rs. 15/- to Rs. 20/- per piece. Now, the price of pineapple per piece is Rs. 45/- to Rs. 60/-.

Last week, the quantity of mangoes arriving at Koyambedu had reduced as any mangoes had fallen away from the tree. Earlier, it was sold at Rs. 50/- per kg, The current price is Rs. 60/- per kg.

Mr. Jayaraman, Member, Koyambedu Market Committee, explained that the prices of fruits like mango, grapes, and watermelon have gone up compared to last week by Rs. 10/-.Alphonsa mango is sold currently at Rs. 100/- per kg. Banganapalli mango is sold at Rs. 60/- per kg. Grapes, which were sold at Rs. 50/- earlier, are now sold at Rs. 60/- per kg. Watermelon, which was sold at Rs. 15/- per kg is now sold at Rs. 20/- per kg.
