Miracle in the sky

Posted on: 02/Jul/2015 11:49:36 AM
For the last few days there is a miracle happening in the sky. Two stars are shining brightly in the nights. After some time one of it disappears.

Venus and Jupiter, the brightest planets in our sky, will merge into a dazzling `double star` in the western horizon after sunset .

From July 1 at 1.21 noon one of the splendid celestial phenomena will occur giving people an easy opportunity to see Venus and Jupiter together with the naked eye after sunset.  In other words both Jupiter and Venus will appear to be near each other as seen from Earth

Although they`ll appear near one another, they`re actually not. The Moon is closest to Earth, just 247,000 miles away. Venus is 56 million miles from Earth, and Jupiter is 10 times farther out at just over 550 million miles.

The two planets will spend eight evenings within 2 degrees of each other from June 27th through July 4th. Astronomers refer to a close celestial pair-up like this as a "conjunction."
