Charted Accountants Convocation II – 2010

The Southern Region of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organized its Convocation on January 9, 2011 at Tapovan Hall,Chinmaya Heritage Centre, Chennai. Rank Certificates to the meritorious Chartered Accountants were awarded by the Chief Guest, Thiru Ma.Subramanian, Hon’ble Worshipful Mayor of Chennai. The Membership Certificates to the newly enrolled Chartered Accountants were awarded by CA. Amarjit Chopra, President, ICAI during the Convocation Ceremony. Ms.Prajita Balavinodan all India No 1 rank holder of November (2009) and Venumadhav Pesay all India No 6 rank holder of May (2010) along with 10 rank holders from the southern region received the certificate out of many hundred students.

At the outset, CA.Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Chairman, SIRC of ICAI welcomed the dignitaries, members of the Institute and esteemed gathering.

The Vice-Chairman Board of Studies and Convocation Convenor CA.V.Murali exhorted the young newly qualified Chartered Accountants to continue the process of updating their knowledge by getting into a Continuous Professional Education Programme, maintain Professional ethics, develop social focus and a sense of belonging to the Alma Mater. They have to play a vital role in discharging their functions in an objective, fair and unbiased manner, keeping in mind professional ethics, values and integrity.

Starting with a handful of 1700 members, today, the strength of Chartered Accountant fraternity has grown to almost 1,65,000 members. On the education front, the ICAI began with mere 259 students and today almost 7.65 lacs students are part of the ICAI.

Thiru Ma.Subramanian, Hon’ble Chief Guest while addressing the members said “The wealth and growth of a Country lies in the hands of young educated citizens and Chartered Accountants play a vital role in a society and are opinion makers and opinion leaders. Hence they have a responsibility to create awareness in the society. The young professionals should never forget their family, parents and teachers.”

Addressing the gathering CA. Amarjit Chopra, President, ICAI congratulated all members present on this momentous day. He said “This day marks a significant milestone in your life’s journey.” He advised all the members to always follow the Code of Ethics laid down by the Institute and keep the interest of nation as their top priority. President, ICAI also encouraged the members to have a focused vision and chalk out their career path accordingly.

CA.G.Ramaswamy, Vice President, ICAI while delivering special address said “An Indian Chartered Accountant has emerged as a complete Business Solution provider and is now recognized globally. Members of the ICAI are required to be fair, honest and sincere in their approach to their profession.”
