Disruptive sleep and its harmful effects

Posted on: 03/Jun/2015 3:43:52 PM
It’s widely said and believed that good sleep is mandatory and indispensable for a healthy being. However, according to a new study, disruptive sleep can induce an individual to eat more which will eventually lead to several health issues such as obesity.

The study was conducted by researchers Alyssa Lundahl and timothy D Nelson of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. The study results stated that poor sleep at night can make a person eat more and induce behavioral changes in their eating habit which in turn will make long term chronic damage in one’s health – in adults and children as well.

The result included obesity, diabetes, heart disease and so on. The result also pointed that it’s necessary to understand the mechanism that is associated with disrupted sleep so as to find out the preventive measures and treatment for such chronic health conditions.

Due to poor night’s sleep, the hormone that stands responsible of appetite is largely affected, there is a surge in emotional stress, and desire to eat increases which all together increases the food intake in order to match with the lack of energy. The research involved study by health psychologists in finding the mindful link between sleep and eating.
