Posted on: 24/May/2015 12:21:50 PM
Price of pulses compete with that of veggies in price hike. And pulses have now hiked in their price by Rs 30 per kg from April. According to market experts it is said unseasonal rainfall, depreciation in value of Indian Rupee and shortage of materials available in the international market. About half the amount of pulses required in India is sourced through import.

Saying his views about this increase in price, one of the shopkeepers in Velachery says prices this year are far higher than last. Price range of Rs 100 per kg that prevailed in February-March this year are now hiked to Rs 150. Consumers are replacing Toor dhal that is used for traditional south Indian Sambar with Masoor dhal.

This price hike has heavily disappointed homemakers. According to one of the homemakers in Perambur, she has to spend Rs 700 extra per month due to this rise in price of pulses. Petrol price hike has already left everyone miserable and this hike in pulse has further worsened the situation, she says. She says it’s high time for the government to take a call on this and get into action.
