Tunnelling work for CMRL is over

Action is being taken to operate Metro Rail in two corridors covering 45 kilometres. All the works connected with this are being done in a rapid pace. The first phase of the project is divided in two corridors spanning 45kms of which 24 km is underground and 21km is elevated. There will be 19 underground stations and 13 stations in the elevated path. The works in the elevated path between Koyambedu and Alandur is over. Now safety inspection is taking place in the elevated portions.
In another corridor the tunnel mining between Thirumangalam and Shenoy Nagar has been completed. After this, the tunnel mining between Koyambedu and Chennai Egmore covering the distance of 8 kilometers commenced. This work has also been completed.
Now works connected with signalling, laying tracks and stations are going on in rapid pace. 75% of the tunnel works are over and the balance 25 % will be completed by December 2015.
