TRAI order to Vodafone on 111 services

Posted on: 04/Mar/2015 5:50:13 PM
TRAI wants Vodafone to stop using the number ‘111’ to offer its customers with all customer care services the reason being violation of national numbering plan. Vodafone is ordered to submit a compliance report by or before March 10.

As per the National Numbering Plan 2003, numbers between 111 and 115 are not allotted to any network for any type of service as they are allotted under ‘spare’. This however is not being followed by Vodafone as all its advertisements and promotional materials carry the number ‘111’ for the customers to avail its services on their pre-paid data offers, 3g packs, and more.

Following this observation, TRAI has insisted the network provider to withdraw from using ‘111’ for customer service. In a reply given to it by Vodafone, it was stated that they have been using ‘111’ for over 18 to 20 years believing it to be of no violation or restriction as it remained valid prior to 2003 when the number existed as a common number for all customer care services in all circles. Vodafone also added that they have been in compliance with the regulations imposed by the authority since 2007.
