TRAI recommends reduction in roaming charges!

TRAI has recommended that the roaming charges and sms charges must be reduced.
It is recommended that roaming charges are to be reduced by 35% and the sms charges by 80%.
TRAI released this recommendation yesterday (Friday, 27th February).
TRAI has recommended the reduction in roaming charges considering at the national level. Under the current licensing arrangement, there are 22 telecommunication circles. As per this arrangement, it is recommended that a maximum of Rs. 0.65 per minute can be charged for roaming, Presently, it is Rs. 1/-
Similarly, it is recommended that STD charges should be reduced from the current Rs. 1.50 per minute to Rs. 1.00 per minute. The rate for incoming calls is also to be reduced from the current Rs. 0.75 per minute to Rs. 0.45 per minute.
For sms under roaming, Rs. 1.00 is charged per message. It is recommended to reduce this to Rs. 0.50 per message.
The cell phone service providers are to respond on this before 13th March. TRAI will then announce the final rates.
