Healthy Food Recipes - Herbal Kashayam / Ayurvedic Drink For Cold & Cough!

Ingredients
  • Dry Ginger (Sukku) – small size
  • Black Pepper – 1 spoon
  • Dhaniya (Malli seeds) – 1 spoon
  • Omam (Ajwain seeds) – 1 spoon
  • Cumin seeds – 1 spoon
  • Clove – 2 nos
  • Turmeric Powder – ¼ spoon
  • Thulasi leaves – a few
  • Betel leaves – 3 nos
  • Palm Sugar (Panakarkandu) – 2 spoon
  • Water – 200 ml
Method of Preparation:
  1. As, dry ginger is very hard in nature, thrash it to powder and add it on top of the 200 ml of water.
  2. Add black pepper (full pepper, as it is) to it.



  3. The add cumin seeds, Omam, Dhaniya, clove and turmeric powder one by one in water.



  4. Thoroughly wash the betel and Thulasi leaves and chop it into small size and keep it ready.
  5. Once they reach a rolling boil, add the betel and Thulasi leaves into it.



  6. Allow it to boil until the water quantity reduces to half of the initial quantity.
  7. Then switch off the flame and separate the filtrate using the fine cotton cloth.
  8. Then to the filtrate either add jaggery or palm sugar into it before consuming the Kashayam.



Alternative Procedure:
  • Dry fry each item (black pepper, cumin seeds, Dhaniya, Omam, Clove) in a pan till it turns brown and grind it together to a coarse powder and store it in the fridge.
  • Boil 2 cups of water. Once it starts rolling boil, add 2 spoons of this prepared powder.
  • Once its quantity reduces to half, switch off the flame.  Without filtering it add either jaggery or honey or palm sugar and consume it.





Note:
  • Irrespective of the age, starting from babies to adults can consume this Kashayam so as to get relieve from cold and cough.
  • You can give 10 ml of this Kashayam from 1 year old baby and the quantity varies depends on the age.
  • Galloping this Kashayam daily in two servings for about 3 to 5 days, you can get better relief from cold and cough.
  • In addition, the constituents incorporated in this Kashayam can aid in clearing our digestion troubles.
  • Besides, this Kashayam also cures body pain and fever.
  • In case, you are not able to get Thulasi, you can add other ingredients to prepare this Kashayam.
