Koodankulam reactor stops production; TN to face increased power cut

As the first nuclear reactor at Koodankulam stopped functioning all of a sudden, Tamil Nadu is likely to face increased power cuts.
With the helping hands of Russia, Central Government set up two nuclear reactors each with 1000 MW capacity. The first of the two contributes 560 MW and second one 463 MW electricity to the state. On the whole, both together contribute 1025 Mw power. Currently, the first reactor is generating power under a testing phase and hence it contributes only 300 to 400 MW power.
As the wind season is over too, there is no hope of getting wind energy. As a combined reason of all these, there is frequent power cut for residential and industrial needs.
Amidst these, the functioning of first nuclear reactor at Koodankulam stopped functioning owing to testing in the reactor. Sources say the reactor will resume functioning only from October 6. This contributes to the increased shortage of power due to which there will be frequent power cuts across the state.
